Online identification

To ensure that identification runs as smoothly as possible, the following points should be noted:

• A stable internet connection
• Sufficient light so that the documents are clearly legible and you are easily recognisable
• A device with a front camera and microphone, e.g. smartphone, tablet or laptop
• Adequate power supply to the device you wish to use for identification (charged battery or connection to the power supply unit)

When you identify yourself to Telekom for a SIM card or other mobile phone order, we check the data on your ID card against official verification criteria, including a visual inspection of the person and a comparison with the photo. We record
the following personal data in our systems:

• Surname, first name
• Date of birth
• Address
• Nationality

We will record the following information from your identity document:

• Issuing authority of the identity document
• Type of document
• Validity
• Since 1 July 2017, telecommunications providers have also been required by law to record and store ID numbers.

Telekom is legally obliged to verify the customer data provided when purchasing a mobile phone tariff in advance of card activation by means of an identity document (Section 172 of the Telecommunications Act). Only if the data of the person placing the order matches the data on the identity document and the person is also the identity document holder may the mobile phone card be activated in their name.

• As a business customer, you have seven days to verify your identity.
  If you do not verify your identity within this period, your order will be cancelled.

Online identification usually takes three to five minutes.
