Telematics infrastructure

Your practice connected in the digital healthcare system

Networked digital medical practices with telematics infrastructure enable fast and secure exchange of medical information, allowing treatments to be designed more efficiently and individually. The telematics infrastructure facilitates cooperation between practices, pharmacies and clinics.

Your advantages

Exchange of information

Medical data can be exchanged digitally, encrypted and in real time between doctors, practices and other healthcare providers more securely and quickly.

Time saving

Digital processes reduce administrative work, prevent duplicate examinations and enable a smoother day-to-day practice routine.

Patient care

Patients benefit from better care because their health data is always up to date and readily available. Even in emergencies, important information can be accessed immediately, which increases treatment safety.

The right option for your practice

For a classic introduction to telematics infrastructure, we offer you the components necessary for operation: modern hardware, on-site installation including device training, maintenance of the connector and dedicated customer service.

The number of card terminals you need depends on the size of your institution, the number of users and the type of installation. You can expand your starter package to a maximum of 45 card terminals as a single business location, depending on your needs. This can be useful for group practices, for example. Despite having multiple terminals, you only need one SMC-B per practice.

Specialist services for medical practices

Communication in Medicine (KIM)

The gematik-certified communication standard "Communication in Healthcare" (KIM) enables barrier-free, authenticated and secure communication between all service providers in Germany connected to the telematics infrastructure (TI). This e-mail service allows all TI participants to exchange medical information and documents in a closed system.

More time for what matters most: your patients! In order to optimise communication regarding patient data, all healthcare professionals need a way to communicate with each other via email. The electronic transmission of findings, medical opinions or reports, for example, speeds up communication and immediately improves everyday practice. By integrating practice management software, emails and all attachments can be transferred securely, easily and reliably to practice systems. Your eHBA takes care of the signature, and secure transmission is only carried out to authenticated participants within the TI.

Telekom provides KIM mailboxes via the KIM specialist service. Each KIM mailbox includes a KIM email address.

Further advantages:

  • Confidentiality of messages: Sensitive data can only ever be read by the person for whom it is intended. Card-based encryption makes unauthorised reading demonstrably impossible.
  • Forgery-proof: No one can falsify or manipulate KIM messages without being noticed. Recipients can always tell whether they have received the email exactly as the sender sent it.
  • Verified identity: The sender of a message is always identifiable, as the identities of communication partners are verified beyond doubt before being added to the address book.
  • Quick searchability: All KIM participants are stored in the central address book. There is no need for time-consuming searches for email addresses.
  • Billability: KIM is the secure transmission method in accordance with Section 291b (1e) of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V), and thus forms the basis for possible reimbursement.

Specialist applications for medical practices

Specialist module: Emergency Data Management (NFDM)
Medication Safety/Electronic Medication Plan (AMTS/eMP)

The specialist application NFDM refers to the handling of patient-specific information that can be stored on the insured person's electronic health card (eGK).

AMTS/eMP is a specialist application for recording patient-specific data on drug therapy safety, information on the patient's medication and medication-related data on the insured person's electronic health card (eGK).

With the current operating software on our connector, you can use the NDFM and eMP specialist modules. All you need is activation, which is possible via a special licence key. In order to be able to use the specialist applications, your practice software must be up to date. Your manufacturer will be happy to provide you with further information.

To use the NFDM and AMTS/eMP specialist modules, additional software components are required that can access the connector functions provided. This software must be purchased separately by the customer, e.g. from their practice software manufacturer, and is not included in the services provided by Telekom.

The electronic patient record (ePA)

The electronic patient record is the central element of networked healthcare/telematics infrastructure. In future, people with statutory health insurance will be able to manage their health-related documents securely for life using an electronic patient record (ePA) on a voluntary basis. The information contained therein is available to patients themselves as well as their treating doctors, dentists and psychotherapists – provided that the insured person has previously authorised the respective practice or pharmacy to do so. The specialist application electronic patient record can be used with the ePA specialist module of the connector.

The operating software on the customer's connector already contains the specialist modules, provided they are available for the connector. This requires that the latest available software package has been installed by the customer. However, a licence is required to use the ePA specialist module. The specialist module is activated by importing a connector-specific and non-transferable licence file. To use the ePA specialist module, additional software components are required that can access the connector functionalities provided. This software must be obtained separately by the customer, e.g. from their practice software manufacturer, and is not included in the services provided by Telekom.
