Security should enable, not hinder

Cyberattacks are now part of everyday business life. At the same time, the cloud, artificial intelligence and increasingly interconnected business processes are creating new opportunities for growth and innovation. Many companies respond to this primarily with new security solutions. Yet this is often where a misunderstanding lies.
Cyber security does not begin with technology. It begins with the question of how companies can remain capable of acting effectively in the long term, even under changing conditions. That is why it is no longer sufficient today to view security solely as a task for IT. It has long been part of responsible corporate governance.

When people talk about cyber security, the impression is often given that companies must have every risk completely under control. In practice, this is neither realistic nor necessary.
What matters far more is consistently reducing known risks, continuously refining security measures and implementing changes swiftly. It is not perfection that makes companies secure, but the ability to act effectively. Speed, in particular, is becoming increasingly important. Today, attackers often need only a few hours to exploit known vulnerabilities. Companies can therefore increasingly rarely afford to delay taking the necessary measures.

The role of cyber security is not to prevent innovation or slow down new projects. On the contrary: robust security is the very foundation for the responsible use of new technologies.
When security measures are clear, effective and integrated into existing processes, they do not create any additional obstacles. They provide companies with the stability they need to implement changes safely and capitalise on opportunities consistently. Cyber security thus transforms from a cost factor into an enabler of digitalisation.

Technologies will continue to evolve. Attacks will become more sophisticated. And artificial intelligence will further accelerate this development. This makes one simple realisation all the more important: security does not arise solely from new technologies. It arises from sound decision-making, clear lines of responsibility and consistent implementation.
That is why cyber security today is far more than just a specialist technical subject. It is a management responsibility – and one of the most important prerequisites for ensuring that companies remain successful and capable of acting effectively in the future.
