What type of telephone number is best suited to my business?

Anyone who starts or expands a business knows the role that a telephone number plays in the company's public image, alongside its website. It is an important distinguishing feature, often for many years. It is not uncommon for it to accompany the company throughout its entire existence. It is therefore worth thinking carefully about the type of telephone number you choose before making a decision.

What are individual numbers or MSNs?

Individual telephone numbers are sometimes abbreviated as MSN. The abbreviation dates back to the days before IP telephony and stands for Multiple Subscriber Number. ISDN basic connections could thus be flexibly divided among different end devices.

Why do you need a direct dial number or DDI?

Unlike individual numbers, extension numbers consist of a so-called number block. Individual end devices can be dialled directly, making them particularly suitable for companies larger than small businesses. The first digits after the area code are always the same, and additional digits – the extensions – can be used to reach individual employees or conference rooms, etc. In this case, direct dialling is sufficient. This allows any extension to be used without an area code or base number.

What are the advantages in each case?

Companies want to grow. They often communicate a single phone number to the outside world. With a short extension number, employees can be reached directly. As staff numbers increase, the number of extensions grows accordingly. Internal calls are made using this short number. The standardised numbering plan makes it easy to forward calls between employees. Permanent or seasonal growth can be reflected automatically by setting up new extension numbers.

Self-employed individuals, offices or small businesses usually only need a single phone number. With the classic, you will find the perfect entry-level tariff with up to 10 individual phone numbers and many useful inclusive services in freely selectable bandwidths of up to 250 Mbit/s.
